Setting up Home Businesses and Economic Empowerment of Rural Women

Abstract

Women play a significant role in the development of small and home-based businesses. Therefore, the current research was conducted with the aim of investigating the impact of starting home businesses on the economic capability of rural women. The study aimed to investigate the setting up home businesses and economic empowerment of rural women. The population of the study includes 256 rural women with domestic business in west Islam Abad County, and 161 entrepreneurs’ women were selected based on stratified sampling (calculated according to the Cochran’s formula) from each district. The research instrument was a questionnaire, and its validity was confirmed based on a panel of experts’ opinion familiar with the matter. Also, to determine its reliability, 30 questionnaires were studied and completed by rural women entrepreneurs. Cronbach's alpha coefficient in the economic sector (α=0.87) and in the tendency to start a home business (α = 0.70) showed that the research tool has a great ability to collect information indicating that the research instrument has a high level of potentiality for data collection. For statistical description, SPSS 21 software was used, while LISREL8.8 was used for structural equation modeling. The results showed that home business justifies 60 precent of women's economic empowerment. Also, the results of the structural equation model for the empowerment of rural women and reflect a good fitness level is expected. Moreover, the research findings indicate that the average economical empowerment 73.9 percent of women surveyed is high. Therefore, by promoting new ideas and providing skill and motivational training, it is possible to improve their economic capability as well.
